1300 515 623 About Victoria Police Services Process How To Prepare Book Assessment

Our Approach

Assessments delivered with care.

A dedicated occupational psychology service built for high-stakes careers — specialising in pre-employment psychological assessments for Victoria Police, emergency services, and defence agencies across Melbourne and Australia.

Our Philosophy

We believe good assessment changes careers.

At RecruitHQ, we believe that good psychological assessment does more than tick a selection box. When done well, it helps applicants understand themselves better, communicate their capabilities more clearly, and approach high-stakes selection with genuine confidence.

Our practice is built on the belief that how a person behaves under pressure reflects their history, their values, and their adaptive responses — not simply their character. We bring that understanding to every assessment we conduct.

Evidence-based

Validated, psychometrically sound tools with strong normative data and proven reliability.

Ethical

All assessments comply with AHPRA and APS standards. No exceptions.

Transparent

Clients understand the process before, during, and after. No surprises.

Strengths-aware

We assess capability, not pathology. A clear picture of your professional strengths.

Meet the Director

Hien Nguyen — Registered Psychologist & Occupational Psychology Specialist

Hien Nguyen is the Practice Director of RecruitHQ and one of Melbourne’s most experienced occupational psychologists in pre-employment psychological assessment for government and law enforcement agencies. Her career spans extensive work across Victoria Police, the Australian Defence Force, the Australian Federal Police, and emergency services organisations.

Hien served as a registered police psychologist with Victoria Police for over five years, working across multiple specialised units including the Drug and Alcohol Counselling Unit. During her tenure, she directly supported recruitment efforts for General Duties Officers, Protective Services Officers, and Police Custody Officers — completing hundreds of pre-employment assessment interviews and contributing to highly specialised squad recruitment processes.

Her deep understanding of policing culture, operational demands, and the psychological requirements of law enforcement roles is unmatched in the private sector. Hien has coordinated wellbeing and psychological support responses to major critical incidents across Victoria, and has developed statewide training programs used by VicPol work units. Her operational experience spans some of Victoria Police’s most demanding units — including the Critical Incident Response Unit, Highway Patrol, Transport, and SOCIT (Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Teams).

In recent years, Hien has honed this experience to offer highly specialised trauma treatment and occupational moral injury therapy for current and retired emergency service workers, law enforcement personnel, and defence employees. She is one of very few practitioners in Australia with both the clinical depth and operational insider knowledge to offer this level of specialist support.
